Tom Cruise stars in this story inspired by true events about an inside plot to kill Adolph Hitler in the final months of World War II.

In what was to be the final attempt on the life of Hitler, several military men joined forces to plot the assassination of the dictator who was the ultimate evil. A plan called “Valkyrie” is agreed upon by Hitler in the event of his death to assist in keeping the country safe and secure.

Killing Hitler

A secret group plans on planting a bomb under the table during one of Hitler’s meetings, then spreading the rumor that there was a coup in progress in order for this more peace-loving group to take control and stop the war and the killings at the concentration camps as soon as possible. Unfortunately, after the bomb goes off they do not realize that Hitler is not dead, so they go about with their well-planned plot, which, of course fails as soon as Hitler is able to make it clear to the people that he is still alive.

These few, brave men know that Hitler means the downfall of their country but also possibly the greater human race. They also know they have to stop him. If they aren’t against him then they are for him, and these men are definitely not with Hitler. His ideals and tactics are wrong, and so the final Valkyrie plot is put into play. While they are executing the plan, the tension mounts as slowly things begin to come apart.

This is an interesting story that is not too well known. The group of men were killed and branded traitors, but now, all these decades later they are the good guys of World War II Germany.

Valkyrie Based on Actual Events

The film is suspenseful and brings to light the people behind one of the bravest actions of the war. World War II was one of the darkest and saddest parts of the twentieth century, mainly due to Adolph Hitler.

Cruise turns in a great performance as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, the man who risked everything to bring down Hitler. His job was to plant the bomb, leave the building, return to Berlin and begin implementing Valkyrie. Taking over the government would be easy, once Hitler was dead. Unfortunately, all the bomb succeeded in doing was killing others, so while the group was taking over Berlin under the guise of Valkyrie, Hitler was busy planning their capture and executions.

This true story is part of German history. There are memorials to the men of Valkyrie today to mark the effort for which they gave their lives in the name of humanity.
